I was chatting with a friend the other day. When we were teens everything was about the war on drugs, and just saying no.

Governments now treat migration and direct military rivalry as their primary global challenges instead of hiding behind anti-narcotics campaigns. So that pretense got dropped.

Thinkimg about how that shift from global drug enforcement to state conflicts, national security, and border control happened at what seems like a relatively snail's pace back then compared to now is kind of wild.

Not a pleasant thought but a small glimmer of light: it is so much harder to hide a geopolitical conflict today. It's hard to keep track of all of them and not feel overloaded and frustrated though. I like to think more knowledge, more awareness encourages us all to keep room for those things it used to be too easy to ignore...
